Black sesame, sesamin, and the bone story behind Flexa.

Ask most people what bone needs and they will say calcium. It is a fair answer, and an incomplete one. Bone is a living tissue that is constantly being taken apart and rebuilt; minerals are the raw material, but the cells doing the building matter just as much.

งาดำ — a familiar seed

Black sesame (Sesamum indicum, งาดำ) sits somewhere between food and remedy across Thai, Chinese, and Japanese tradition — folded into desserts, ground into drinks, and long associated with strength in later life. What distinguishes it chemically is a family of lignans, chiefly sesamin and sesamolin, alongside the antioxidant sesamol.

What the research examines

Laboratory and animal studies have looked at sesamin in the context of osteoblast differentiation — the maturation of the cells that lay down new bone matrix — and at its antioxidant behaviour in cartilage tissue. One representative paper is Ma, Z.P. et al., Medical Science Monitor, 2019, "Sesamin Promotes Osteoblastic Differentiation and Protects Rats from Osteoporosis". This is preclinical work.
